Improving global co-ordination & action

Many of the issues facing biodiversity, such as climate change, require concerted action at broader scales, in particular at a global scale. There are a range of frameworks to enable this, including international nature conservation agreements.

As the UK’s statutory advisor on international conservation matters, we have a long history of experience in this area.  We play a leading role in providing high-quality evidence and technical advice on the development and implementation of international nature conservation agreements, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Our experts regularly form part of UK delegations at international meetings, and engage with other relevant international-level groups.
